We have also managed to save up an emergency fund and other general savings since then.
It’s incredibly freeing to have cash available. Before, we rarely had cash because we were in a horrible cycle of paying the credit cards to fuel our next purchase, then being set back because we didn’t have cash available when we truly needed it.
It’s so very different now. We pay cash for everything.
While being debt free is awesome, I’m actually here to tell you that you absolutely must ask if there is a discount available when you pay cash, in full, up front.
I recently had to have some extensive chiropractic therapy – which my insurance doesn’t cover – and was pleasantly surprised to receive a FIFTEEN percent discount for paying in cash, up front.
It usually pays to ask about a discount for cash payment. Seriously, the worst thing that can happen is that they say there’s no discount available. Try it sometime. You might be surprised at the answer you get!
What about you, have you ever used this tactic? I’d love to know what you have gotten a discount on for paying cash.
